Wardrobe Declutter

Spring is a great time of year to have a declutter, get organised, and add some new pieces to your collection. Here are some tips to help you with this task!

Music
Music makes decluttering so much more fun. Put on your favourite playlist, tie your hair up, and take a deep breath! You may find it helpful to set aside a specific amount of time to complete this task, e.g. 1 hour, so you can stay focused and not get distracted.

Empty your wardrobe
Pull everything out. Everything! Pile it on the bed. So. Many. Clothes. Don't worry, this is the untidy part; it will be tidy in the end.

Keep or get rid
This is the hard bit. Go through each item one by one, and ask yourself the following questions:

Do I like this?
Does this suit me?
Is it comfortable?
Does it fit me?
Have I worn it in the last 12 months?

If the answer is "no" to any of these questions, you know what to do.

If the answer is "yes", then you should keep it.

We all keep things we don't need "just in case." But these items are adding to the clutter and taking up space, so be brave. If you're not sure, put it in a box of "not sure" items, and put it away in storage. If you haven't missed these items in a month, then they should go. What you do with these items is up to you, but I like to donate any unwanted items to a charity shop.

Organisation
Now you've decided what you're going to keep, it's time to clean and organise your wardrobe. Use a vacuum cleaner to give it a good clean, and wipe down shelving with a damp cloth.

An organised wardrobe will make it easy for you to see what you have (or haven't) got. I got some white wooden hangers from Ikea, and have shelves for my shoes and handbags. I've organised my clothes into various sections: workwear, casual, gym, holiday, and formal/evening dresses. I group these sections according to the item and the colours. This helps me get ready so much more quickly.

What do I need/like?
Now that you have some space, consider what you need and what you'd like to add to your wardrobe. I love getting inspiration from fashion blogs and magazines.

I hope you've found this helpful :-) I'd love to hear your tips for decluttering your wardrobe!
