Weekend Away, Cornwall

My boyfriend and I recently stayed with some lovely friends in Falmouth, Cornwall, and we had such a great time.

It was a long drive from South Wales  and we hit the Friday afternoon rush hour traffic on at least a couple of occasions, but the journey was well worth the effort, and made all the better by listening to Wales beat Belgium in the Euros!

After a very warm welcome from our wonderful hosts and a good night's sleep, we awoke on Saturday morning, keen to explore.

We took a stroll to Swanpool Beach for an alfresco breakfast, making sure that we sat under a parasol to avoid any showers. One minute it was hot and humid, the next it was wind and rain! British summertime weather can be a bit hit and miss, but the UK is our favourite place to be at this time of year. We generally prefer to go away to warmer climes when the weather gets colder, as this makes winter shorter.

As well as having a lovely beach and pretty beach huts, we discovered that Swanpool Beach is home of the quirky ice cream...

Sadly, ice cream wasn't on their breakfast menu. However, if it was, I would have probably gone for the Malt Pleaser! Next time ;-)

On Sunday we went for brunch at Gylly Beach Cafe, which overlooks Falmouth's famous Gyllyngvase Beach.

This was the place to see and be seen; it was popular with locals and visitors, especially dog owners with their cute pups. The lively cafe was a little bit overcrowded and noisy, but the brunch we ordered was excellent.

D had a huge crispy bacon roll
I had the best eggs benedict that I have ever had!

Falmouth is the warmest place on mainland Great Britain, and extreme temperatures are extremely rare. As a result, there are lots of beautiful blooms:
 Aren't they just gorgeous?!

All in all, we had a refreshing weekend in the best company; just what we needed.

If you fancy a relaxed getaway by the sea then I would definitely recommend a trip to Falmouth. We're already looking forward to going back!
Thank you for reading, Angharad x

  3. Jesus, this is beautiful. My boyfriend was saying how he wanted to go to Cornwall, so this has inspired me to actually start looking at weekends away there. And Gylly sounds cool, even if the cafe itself was a little overcrowded.
